Also, a couple of fellow RVers from Florida, who were originally just coming to visit us here on their travels, have joined the workamping team here. This is an extremely easy gig, so they are staying here until September! They are also members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and they live in the same area a we do. We have done a lot of RVing with them in the past.
One day we took them off roading and sightseeing, we went back up the Batchelor Loop in Creede. We came across a small group of hikers heading out for 3 days. The neat thing about them, was they were taking Llamas! Of course Kate had to get out with everyone and have her picture taken with them.
Last Saturday we went to the Logger Days Festival in South Fork, just down the road 13 miles. Like many small towns, this festival was small as well, and the competition interesting. We had to work earlier in the day, so we missed a lot of the competitions, however, we did get to see a speed contest in which each contestant had to fire up the chain saw and cut the end off a log first by going down and then cut another slice off coming back up! There were local craftsman their and Kate go a new hat band for her cowboy hat mad of braided horse hair!
One afternoon we took some of our new friends (from Texas) off roading and went to Crystal Creek and up to a reservoir near the Continental Divide where some of our friends go fishing. Again, we can't get enough of the fabulous views and nature! Here we came across a rather large Aspen tree that is ready to topple over, thanks to some busy beavers....soon it will be part of their dam! Right near the reservoir, we were greeted by a "whistle pig"...they really do whistle! This one decided to pose for the picture!
