This post is unexpected, but fortunately all is well. I'll explain with the abbreviated version... About 3 weeks ago, one night I noticed Dave looked flushed. He said he was not in the sun that day, so, being a nurse, I took his pulse. I immediately noticed his pulse was irregular, he claimed not to have any symptoms, so I told him I was going to send him to our family Dr. for an EKG and probably a halter monitor. He did go to the Dr., his EKG was normal, but she thought he should have a halter monitor. Later that week he wore the halter monitor. Because he was "asymtomatic", there seemed to be no urgency to this, however, after 3 weeks of this process, the halter monitor showed that during the 24 hours he had periods of no heart beat at all, one even lasted over 7 seconds! Immediately the cardiologist called him to the office and it was determined that he needed a pacemaker! Today, he had the pacemaker inserted and is doing great! (this all happened extremely quickly once the halter monitor was read) The cardiologist said he will be good to go in 4 weeks, instead of May 29th. We will be going on June 18th give or take. We will still take the same route as planned and work at Cottonwood Cove Guest Ranch, the Dude Ranch. http://www.cottonwoodcove.com/home.htm I have spoken to the owners today and they have been very understanding and have agreed to allow us to come a little later than originally planned! Of importance for you all to understand it that Dave did not have a heart attack! It is just that the electrical system in his heart has been malfunctioning. This is fairly common and easily corrected today with modern medicine and a pacemaker! So, in 4 weeks, Dave will be back to all his normal activities and will not even know he has it. We have been blessed in that this was found before anything horrible happened, he could have passed out while driving, fallen off one of the boats he works on, or any number of bad things. Now, all is well and we will now be back on track in 4 weeks! Thank you all for your prayers, calls, emails and concern! And thanks to our current employers and coworkers for your understanding and support; www.kingfisherfleet.com/

On the lighter side, once we got over the shock of it all, we kidded and I kept unlpugging the TV, pretending to practice "pulling the plug"! At the hospital, we asked them if they could insert an Ipod at the same time, and friends offered to give him jumpstarts whenever he needed one using their car jump start cables! Another friend called to offer any help I might need, so I asked him to trim the palm trees...he recinded his offer! Fortunately, we still had our sense of humor through this.
